About Me
In 2000, Rick Mason graduated from the Image Arts – New Media program at Ryerson University where one of his professors quickly hired him to work for Pangaea NewMedia. At Pangaea, Rick moved from junior developer to production manager to technical director while working on dynamic websites for clients such as CHUM Radio Network, CHUM FM, Shelternet, CRCA and the Cultural Careers Council of Ontario. Rick was a lead developer on Revista, an asset management and presentation tool used by several Toronto companies for remote collaboration with their clients.
After the dotcom bubble burst Rick spent his time freelancing and happened to run into Shawn Pucknell at an industry event. Little did he know at the time what this chance meeting would lead to. Rick is now one of the Directors of FlashInTO – the Toronto Flash User Group – and the Technical Director for FITC. He lends his expertise in web application development and audio-video production to these events in an effort to keep things running smoothly and to provide the best experience possible for those who attend. When not solving technical emergencies at events Rick spends his time mentoring students and sharing new technologies with others.
FITC and FlashInTO are what Rick does in his spare time. He spends his days building Flex/AIR based administrative tools and ColdFusion applications for NOW Magazine ( www.nowtoronto.com) and cruising through several hundred rss feeds staying on top of current events in the tech world. Since starting at NOW Rick has had several video game reviews published in the weekly paper and online.
